The lab is designed to demonstrates the law of conservation of momentum. There were two types of collisions done in the lab including elastic and inelastic. Both of the collision were performed using the vernier carts.
We collect datas such as the mass of the vernier carts and time taken for each of them to travel until it stop moving. After that, we plugged in the datas into the formula for momentum. The process were done to demonstrates the law of conservation of momentum as well as to prove that the law is true. Even though, the amount of initial momentum and the final one were not exactly the same, they were close enough to conclude that the result of experiment has followed the law of conservation of momentum. |
